Welcome back to another episode of "Timeless Tea Talks." I’m Katie Zeitler, Outreach and Communications Coordinator at Old Friends Club. I hope everyone is settling into the change of season, enjoying the air as it turns crisper, and seeing the leaves change colors. Today, we have a special topic that I think will be helpful to many in our community - "Building Your Care Partner Toolbox." Caregiving can be challenging, but having the right resources at your disposal can make the journey a lot smoother. Let's begin with a moment of encouragement - words of affirmation. Caregiving is a journey filled with challenges, and it's crucial to remind ourselves of our strength and resilience. I want you to take a deep breath and let these words of affirmation wash over you. Repeat after me: I am strong. I am a loving and dedicated caregiver, making a difference in my family member's life. I can do small things with great love. I am deserving of support and help from others. I am capable of seeking assistance when needed, without guilt. These affirmations are your daily dose of strength, a gentle reminder that you have the power to navigate the challenges that caregiving may bring. Take a moment each day to repeat an affirmation to yourself. Let’s dive in to today’s topic: Building Your Care Partner Toolbox. Today’s adventure includes a little website scavenger hunt for you. So, grab your digital magnifying glass and get ready to explore the treasure trove of resources waiting for you at www.oldfriendsclub.org/mainresources. Are you ready? Let's begin! Use the accompanying word document “Building your Care Partner Toolkit” as a guide and a place to take notes! This form can be downloaded in the forum. [SEGMENT 1: Find Your Daily Affirmation] The first item on our scavenger hunt is to find one daily affirmation that resonates with you. Affirmations can be a powerful source of strength and positivity in your caregiving journey. Scroll through the website and see if you can find an affirmation that speaks to your heart. Don't forget to write it down and keep it close by to remind yourself of your inner strength each day. Ah, affirmations can be like a warm cup of tea for the soul, don't you think? [SEGMENT 2: Area Agencies on Aging] Now, let's move on to the second item in our toolbox - the "Area Agencies on Aging." These agencies can be a goldmine of support and services in your local community. Find the tab for your county and explore the services they offer. Getting familiar with these resources can be a game-changer for your caregiving journey. The Area Agencies on Aging can be a lifeline for many caregivers, offering a wide range of services and assistance. Take notes and remember that knowledge is power. [SEGMENT 3: Support Groups] Caregiving can sometimes feel like an isolating journey, but it doesn't have to be. The third item on our scavenger hunt is to check out the support group tab. Joining a support group can make you feel less alone on this path. Take your time, explore the options, and pick a group that resonates with you. Caregiver support groups provide a safe space for sharing experiences, getting advice, and forming valuable connections with others who understand your journey. [SEGMENT 4: Education] Next up, we have the "Education" tab. Knowledge is a powerful tool in caregiving. Take a look at the education options available on the website and find one that piques your interest. Whether it's a workshop, webinar, or a local class, ongoing learning can empower you to better understand what's happening and what's to come in your caregiving journey. Remember, the more you know, the better equipped you are to provide the best care. [SEGMENT 5: Local Events and Activities] Let's not forget that caregiving is not just about responsibilities; it's also about living a fulfilling life. Check out the "Local Events and Activities" tab. Reducing social isolation is crucial, and being around others can be incredibly uplifting. Look for upcoming events and activities that interest you and make a note of them. Sometimes, a day out or an engaging event can be a refreshing break. [SEGMENT 6: Respite and Ways to Manage Stress/Relax] Now, onto the “Respite and Ways to Manage Stress/Relax. Remember that taking care of yourself is equally important in caregiving. Old Friends Club offers respite options. Explore this tab to learn more about the additional support available for caregivers. It's not only about caring for your loved one but also about taking care of yourself. [SEGMENT 7: Legal and Financial Resources] Next, we come to the "Legal/Financial" tab. It's essential to be aware of the legal and financial resources available to caregivers. Take notes on the resources that may help you navigate the often complex legal and financial aspects of caregiving. Being prepared in these areas can save you a lot of stress in the long run. [SEGMENT 8: Miscellaneous] Every caregiving journey is unique! Use this last space for notes on any other resources that might be helpful to you or maybe even resources that you want to share with another care partner. [OUTRO] WE hope you enjoy doing the website scavenger hunt, and I hope you gather some valuable tools for your caregiving toolbox. Thanks for joining us on "Timeless Tea Talks" today.
