Activity Director - Sammamish/Issaquah OFC Location

Job Description:

Old Friends Club is seeking an Activity Director for the Sammamish / Issaquah Club. 

 

Old Friends Club is a nonprofit adult daytime memory program offering engaging activities for adults living with Alzheimer’s or other dementias, while providing needed respite for family caregivers. The Activity Director leads the program with the help of a Program Assistant and volunteers. The Club program is open for 5-hours a day for at least 2 days a week and typically serves 10 to 12 Members. This is a rewarding job that allows the Activity Director to plan fun and creative ways of keeping the members engaged, but most importantly, the position helps to greatly improves the quality of life for both the people living with dementia and their caregivers. 

 

POSITION SUMMARY 

  • Use your creativity and flexibility to create an enjoyable, welcoming, respectful community that encourages engagement and a sense of belonging for each member.

  • Engage Members socially and cognitively through conversation, games, art, music, exercise, and other activities that you design. Work with Members’ strengths and preserve choices to make their experience at Old Friends Club a familiar, trusted, and enjoyable sharing of life.

  • Create monthly activities calendar.

  • Lead the Program Assistant and volunteers in creating an inclusive atmosphere of trust and respect while also combining fun with structure needed to navigate dementia. 

  • Provide direct care for Members when necessary and ensure that Members are kept safe during the program day.  

  • Manage intakes of potential families. 

  • Schedule volunteers.

  • Communicate and support families as needed.

  • Participate in quarterly trainings.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working with people living with dementia or other cognitive disorders. 

  • Able to plan, implement, and evaluate an ongoing activity program.  

  • Effective communication and interaction skills with people living with dementia or other cognitive challenges. 

  • Commitment to set and honor appropriate boundaries and maintain confidentiality.

 

COMPENSATION AND HOURS

$25/hour. Three 7-hour days per week, including time to set-up and clean-up each day, plus an hour per day for planning activities. May expand to 4 days/week.

Program Assistant/Nursing Assistant - Sammamish/Issaquah OFC Location

Old Friends Club is seeking a Program Assistant / Nursing Assistant for the Sammamish / Issaquah Club.

 

Old Friends Club is a nonprofit adult daytime memory program offering engaging activities for adults living with Alzheimer’s or other dementias, while providing their caregivers with needed respite. Along with the help from volunteers, the Program Assistant coordinates with the Activity Director to create a place of friendship and belonging for people living with dementia to stay active and social. The Club program is open for 5-hours a day for at least 2 days a week and serves up to 10 to 12 Members. This is a rewarding job that greatly improves the quality of life for both people living with dementia and their caregivers.

POSITION SUMMARY 

  • Take direction from activity director and help guide volunteers.

  • Support members with engaging program activities, such as conversation, games, art, music, exercise, and lunch.

  • Be alert and address changes in Members’ behavior, comfort, or anxiety level.

  • Assist with ADL’s including ambulation, cueing, and hygiene. 

  • Maintain a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment.

  • Promote Members’ dignity and respect. Honor appropriate boundaries. Maintain confidentiality.

  • Order and help serve lunches for the group. 

  • Coordinate with Activity Director to create Plan of Care for each Member and update every 6 months.

  • Complete weekly Progress Notes for each Member. 

 

MINIMUM QUALITIFICATIONS 

  • Effective interaction and communication with people living with dementia

  • Nursing Assistant Certification or equivalent experience 

  • Empathy, respect, compassion and humor

  • Clear spoken English

 

COMPENSATION AND HOURS
